St. Scholastica cruises to UMAC women's soccer tournament title
DULUTH, Minn.---After missing out on the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) women's soccer championship title a year ago following a semifinal upset, No.1 College of St. Scholastica made sure that wouldn't happen against as they downed No. 2 University of Northwestern 4-1 Saturday.

Less than two minutes into the game, the Saints got on the board when a corner kick from Janelle Rouillard sailed into the net just inside the near corner to put the Saints on the board first. Then, star Morgan Friday made it 2-0 when she got a break behind the defender in the 9th minute after a pass from Rouillard.
Friday then added an insurance goal in the 16th minute on break with a pass from Emily Olson to give the Saints a 3-0 lead. The Eagles put on some pressure late in the half with Alexa Gothard making four saves following the third goal to keep the Eagles off the board.
Following the break, the Saints added another goal from Friday with an assist from McKenzie Nelson in the 50th minute. The Eagles would eventually break through in the 84th minute with Linley Norman scoring on a header off a corner kick from Trae Modaff.
Friday earned UMAC Tournament MVP honors after leading the Saints with three goals on the day and five for the duration of the tournament. Gothard finished with five saves in the victory. The Eagles were led by Norman with a goal and two shots and Anna Welch tallied three shots on goal. The Eagles finish with a 11-11 overall record after making a third-straight UMAC championship game appearance.
