UMAC Lessons from Leaders: Dave Reyelts, St. Scholastica
The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Lessons from Leaders video series is released Wednesdays in 2019-20 and features Commissioner Corey Borchardt interviewing conference coaches about their success within the conference and at the regional and national levels. The series promotes coaches who have helped enhance the identity and image of the conference as whole. The interviewees include coaches who either won a UMAC regular season or postseason title in 2018-19 or were featured as a UMAC Coach of the Decade during the conference's "10-Year Celebration."
This UMAC Lessons from Leaders episode sees Commissioner Corey Borchardt discuss the long-term succcess of the College of St. Scholastica women's soccer program with head coach Dave Reyelts. Last year Reyelts was named the UMAC Women's Soccer Coach of the Decade after leading the Saints' program to unprecedented success in the conference's first 10 years of being a Division III member. During Reyelts' time with St. Scholastica, the women's soccer team has qualified for nine NCAA tournaments and have won 13 regular season and 12 postseason UMAC championships. The Saints won the 2018 regular season title with a 11-0-1 conference record.
The 2019 season marks Reyelts' 20th year leading the Saints. He is the winningest coach in program history and a six-time UMAC Coach of the Year award winner. He also boasted a stretch of 99-consecutive regular season contests against UMAC opponents without a loss.
Commissioner Corey Borchardt discusses several topics with Reyelts including his the highs and lows of his decorated coaching career as well as sustaining long-term program success. Other topics include mentors, player-coach respect and the future of Division III athletics from a coaching perspective.
