The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Lessons from Leaders video series is released Wednesdays in 2019-20 and features Commissioner Corey Borchardt interviewing conference coaches about their success within the conference and at the regional and national levels. The series promotes coaches who have helped enhance the identity and image of the conference as whole. The interviewees include coaches who either won a UMAC regular season or postseason title in 2018-19 or were featured as a UMAC Coach of the Decade during the conference's "10-Year Celebration."

This episode of UMAC Lessons from Leaders highlights University of Minnesota Morris men's and women's golf head coach Jana Koehler who was named the UMAC Women's Golf Coach of the Decade as part of the UMAC "10-Year Celerbation" in 2018-19. Koehler led the Cougar women's golf team to back-to-back conference titles in 2009 and 2010. Since women's golf was reinstated in the UMAC in 2015, the Cougars have finished as the runner-up three times.

The 2019 season marks Koehler's 20th season with the Cougar golf programs. This is her second season as the Director of Golf with oversight of both the men's and women's teams and coaching staff.

Commissioner Corey Borchardt discusses several topics with Koehler including her leadership style and the importance of balance as a coach. Other topics of discussion include her top coaching moments and developing the sport of women's golf.

The entire interview can be viewed on the UMAC YouTube channel (umacathletics)
