UMAC honors 500 fall student-athletes with academic honors

ST. PAUL, Minn.---The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) handed out 500 academic all-conference awards to individual fall student-athletes and also recognized multiple teams for academic success, announced Wednesday.

Individuals who earn a 3.5 or better grade point average (GPA) or better during their respective semesters of competition are recognized with the prestigious individual honor, while the team with the top GPA in each sport is also recognized.
The College of St. Scholastica finished with a fall-best 92 student-athletes honored with 21 coming from the Saints' women's soccer program. Martin Luther College had the second-most student-athletes earn recognition with 76, while the University of Northwestern had 68 awardees.
For the fall awards by sport, football had the top number of players recognized with 113 awards. Women's soccer was just behind with 102 honorees and men's soccer tallied 82 honors.
In the team competition, Martin Luther claimed four of the eight awards which are given to the team with the top team GPA for their respective corresponding semesters. The Knights took the top awards in volleyball (3.562), men's golf (3.421), men's soccer (3.367) and football (2.883). St. Scholastica had two top team GPAs including women's soccer which boasted the top GPA of all fall UMAC programs with a 3.61 mark. Northwestern took the top mark in women's cross country (3.496). Bethany Lutheran College topped women's golf (3.592) and Northland College had the top mark in men's cross country (3.536).
The Saints' women's soccer team and the Knights' football team not only had the top GPAs in each respective sport, but also claimed regular season conference championships.
