St. Scholastica wins sixth-straight UMAC men's tennis tournament championship
ST. PAUL, Minn.---The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) men's tennis tournament has seen the College of St. Scholastica reign supreme in recent years. In 2017, the Saints have seen one of its most talented squads in recent years entering the tournament with just one loss.
Thanks to solid performances across the board, the No. 1 Saints were able to hold off the No. 2 University of Northwestern for a 9-0 shutout win and their sixth-straight tournament title Saturday at the University of Minenesota Baseline Tennis Center.

For the second time this season, the Saints held the Eagles scoreless as they asserted their dominance from the top of the lineup to the bottom. In four of the six singles matches, the Saints allowed the Eagles one or no points.
The Saints took all three doubles matches with 8-3 and 8-4 at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively. However, the squad of Bryce Gadke and Trace Combs had to battle for every point and the win against Sam Bostrom and Turner Main at No. 3 doubles. Eventually, Gadke and Combs came away with a 9-7 win.
With a three-point lead in the match, the Saints made quick work of the Eagles in singles. Brendan Boudreau went 6-0, 6-0 over Josh Kimball at No. 3 singles for the top win of the day. Program wins leader Logan Engelstad ended his UMAC career with a solid 6-0, 6-1 win over Cameron Fair at No. 4 singles to decide the match for the Saints.
Gadke and Combs each won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, while Serhii Tyhkonenko and Ernesto Telles had the toughest battles of the day. Telles defeated Landon Ridpath first at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-4 before Tyhkonenko took on Eagles' leader CJ Lloyd and won by the same score at No. 1 singles.
With the win, the Saints improve to 20-1 overall and the Eagles fell to 11-16. The Saints will wait to see if they will receive a Pool B berth to the NCAA Championships announced Monday on ncaa.com.
