Early in the season it appeared as if the Saints would run away with the title after defeating the Eagles 7-2 in the first meeting in March, but the Eagles bounced back and took the second match in thrilling fashion 5-4. The two teams completed their seasons with wins over Bethany Lutheran College Saturday and Monday, respectively, to end with 9-1 conference marks to share the title.

With a larger margin of victory in their win over the Eagles, the Saints earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament and will face No. 4 Bethany Lutheran in the first semifinal match Friday night. The Vikings clinched their second-straight postseason bid Friday when the University of Minnesota Morris lost to Martin Luther Friday before the Vikings went on to win over the Cougars Saturday. That Saints took both regular season matches 9-0 over the Vikings.

A year ago, the Eagles upset the Saints in the tournament championship to earn their third-straight postseason title. To make it four in a row, though, they will need to first finish off No. 3 Martin Luther College in the semifinals. The Knights ended the regular season with a 6-4 conference record. The Eagles took both regular season games with 9-0 decisions over the KNights.

Both semifinal matches are slated to begin simultaneously following the conclusion of the men's matches at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center. No. 1 St. Scholastica and No. 4 Bethany Lutheran will face off in semifinal one, while No. 2 Northwestern and No. 3 Martin Luther will compete in semifinal two.

The winners of Friday’s semifinals will compete for the postseason title in the UMAC championship Saturday at Baseline beginning at 1:30 p.m.

For both semifinal and championship matches, doubles will be played first. Singles matches cannot begin until all doubles matches have been completed.
