DULUTH, Minn.--- For the last three seasons, the Minnesota North Shore's greatest rivalry has highlighted the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) men's soccer postseason tournament as the regular season No. 1 and No. 2 squads have added to their historic rivalry facing off in the title game with a trip to the NCAA tournament on the line.

In the third-straight meeting between No. 1 College of St. Scholastica and No. 2 University of Wisconsin-Superior, though, the outcome was different than the last two meetings in the 'ship as the Yellowjackets emerged victorious after taking the match in penalty kicks Saturday

No. 2 Wisconsin-Superior and No. 1 St. Scholastica played to a 1-1 tie in regulation and through two overtime periods before Wisconsin-Superior won their first UMAC postseason title taking the match 4-2 on penalty kicks.

The first half started off in favor of the Saints who outshot the Yellowjackets 10-5 and netted the game's first goal in the 39th minute. Juan Ochoa picked up his second goal of the postseason off a throw in and a one-on-one run with the keeper.

The Saints took a 1-0 lead into the half, but the Yellowjackets eventually gained momentum and outshot the Saints 12-6 in the second half. In the 82nd minute, Wisconsin-Superior evened the game 1-1 on a goal in the bottom left corner from Elliot Chapman.

Overtime periods proved that wouldn't be enough to settle the game between the two rivals. In the shootout, Wisconsin-Superior went first with Chapman converting on his attempt. The Saints would miss their first opportunity but evened it 1-1 after the Yellowjackets missed and Jacob Carson scored.

Gunnar O'Neil-Sengbu scored to put the Jackets up 2-1, but Luke Buckton answered back for the Saints to even it 2-2. Gustavo Barbieri then gave the Yellowjackets a 3-2 lead before St. Scholastica missed on their next chance. The win was locked up with a conversion by Leonardo Peredes.

Fernando Bicalho was named the tournament MVP after he scored the game-winning goal in overtime against No. 3 University of Northwestern in the semifinal game Thursday to send the Yellowjackets to the championship game.

The Yellowjackets captured the UMAC's bid to the NCAA tournament and will learn their postseason fate Monday at 12:30 p.m. on ncaa.com for the Division III men's soccer selection show.
