MORRIS, Minn.---When the University of Minnesota Morris and Martin Luther College played during the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) men's soccer regular season, the contest was a higher-scoring affair that saw Minnesota Morris come out on top 4-2.

That wasn't the case, though, Monday as the two faced off in cold and extremely windy conditions for the UMAC men's soccer tournament quarterfinal. What didn't change was the victor as No. 4 Minnesota Morris used overtime heroics to defeat No. 5 Martin Luther to advance to the semifinals.

Early in the contest Minnesota Morris had the upper hand with nine shots toward the Knights' goal, but they couldn't manage to tally a goal. After 45 minutes the score was deadlocked and the momentum switched to advantage Martin Luther with the Knights outshooting the Cougars 11-3.

However, 90 minutes wasn't long enough to decide a victor. In fact, neither was 100. With just over four minutes to play in the second overtime slate, Zachary Jacobson stole a ball off a goalie free kick and ended the contest 1-0 in favor of the Cougars.

Cody Christ tallied the shutout in goal for the Cougars as he turned away all five shots that came his way, while Caleb King also made five stops for the Knights. Jacobsen led the Minnesota Morris offense with four shots, and Erich Osterman led Martin Luther with four shots.

The No. 4 Cougars will now travel Wednesday to face the No. 1 seed College of St. Scholastica at 1:30 p.m. in Duluth, Minnesota. The second semifinal will see No. 3 seed University of Northwestern take on No. 2 University of Wisconsin-Superior at 4 p.m. in Superior, Wisconsin.
