No. 1 St. Scholastica defeats No. 5 Minnesota Morris, 17-1 (5 inn.)
The Saints – who only defeated the Cougars 5-0 on Thursday – wasted no time in the rematch plating five runs in the first inning on a pair of errors by the Cougars, a RBI double from Nikki Logergren and a home run from Rendi Johnson. In the second inning, Logergren plated two more runs before Hannah Borgeson hit a RBI single and Johnson homered again to give the Saints a 10-0 lead early.
In the bottom of the third, the Saints added four more runs on a RBI single from tteam-leading hitter Kara Warren and a three-run home run from Marjaana Dailey. The Cougars responded, though, in the top of the next inning as Paige Larson hit a RBI single to bring Magen Knickerbocker home for the Cougars' only run of the day.
Already up 14-0, the Saints used one more home run – this time a three-run shot from Carly Henning – to ensure the Cougars couldn't mount a comeback and ensure a rematch with the Yellowjackets. With the loss, the Cougars end the season 12-28 after winning two tournament games.
Maggie Schley led the Saints at the plate going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Rendi Johnson's two home runs gave her a team-best four RBI in the game. Logergren, Dailey, Borgeson and Henning each collected three RBI. Logergren was also 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Schley earned the win on the mound allowing just three hits in three innings pitched.
For the Cougars, Larson led with one hit and one RBI. Knickerbocker, Bret Hulett, Autumn Mahoney and Lacey Sullivan each collected hits for the Cougars. Hulett suffered the loss on the mound for the Cougars.
No. 1 St. Scholastica defeats No. 3 Wisconsin-Superior, 11-3 (6 inn.)
The Saints made sure early that the Yellowjackets were going to have to show up at the plate if they wanted to win the title. In the bottom of the second inning, the Saints went up 1-0 but kept the inning alive scoring five runs on two outs. Alexa Bremer drove in three runs on a double before Micah McGuiness and Schley hit a single each to drive in two more giving the Saints a 6-0 lead.
The Yellowjackets responded in their next at bat cutting the lead in half to 6-3. Ciarra Taipale hit a RBI double before Shelly Misco hit a two-RBI single to give her squad some life. The Saints added one more run in the fourth to push the lead to 7-3.
After a scoreless fifth, the Saints finally sealed the win in the sixth inning by run rule. Warren launched a two-RBI double to center to make it 9-3 in the Saints favor. Then, on the very next at bat, Logergren launched a two-run walk-off home run to force a decisive game seven between the two squads Sunday.
Bremer led the Saints offensively going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored. Warren and McGuiness each picked up a pair of hits and scored twice, while Logergren had two hits and two RBI. McGuiness earned the win on the mound allowing just three earned runs on five hits in six innings pitched.
For the Yellowjackets, Sasha Fjeiran, Gabby Gidley and Macy Hanson joined Taipale and Misco with a hit each. Hanson, Taipale and Katie White scored the Yellowjackets' three runs. Sarah Hendrickson was credited with the loss on the mound.
