In their first matchup of the season, the Saints moved quickly past the Eagles, but the second matchup to decide the regular season title proved to be a bit tougher for the Saints as they won just 6-3. Saturday, the Saints managed to pick up an impressive 9-0 win to end a spectacular season.
The match started out with the Saints taking a solid 8-1 win at the No. 2 doubles spot with Bryce Gadke and Mike Fontana pairing to defeat Derek Williams and Landon Ridpath. The Saints No. 1 pair of Josh Stainer and Logan Engelstad had to work a bit harder in defeating CJ Lloyd and Brett Jacobus 8-4.
The No. 3 doubles match was an all-out battle but the Saints' Jordan Lindholm and Trace Combs eventually emerged victorious over Josh Kimball and Cameron Fair with a score of 8-6.
In singles play, Engelstad picked up the lone 6-0, 6-0 win over Ridpath at No. 3 singles, while reigning UMAC Player of the Year Stainer won No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1 over Lloyd to conclude the match. Gadke also got a solid win at No. 5 singles over Kimball 6-2, 6-0.
At the No. 2 spot, Makar Grytsevych had his work cut out against Jacobus but managed to come out on top by a score of 6-4, 6-2. Lindolm also had a tough battle against Fair at the No. 6 singles position, but eventually emerged victorious with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
The win was the 51st-consecutive win for the Saints over Northwestern and helped the Saints finish with a season record of 16-6. A young Northwestern squad ends its season 13-15 overall.
