National track and field performances highlight UMAC weekly awards
ST. PAUL, Minn.--- The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced its Player of the Week award winners Tuesday in the sports of men's and women's tennis, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field. The College of St. Scholastica had three honorees recognized while the University of Northwestern-St. Paul had two and Northland College, the University of Minnesota Morris and the University of Wisconsin-Superior each had one individual earn the honor.
The UMAC Player of the Week awards are nominated for and selected by UMAC coaches and sports information directors and are published each Tuesday morning.
The award winners and descriptions of their accomplishments for the week are below:
MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The Northwestern men's tennis team face tough competition last week as it traveled south to take on two Wisconsin programs. Despite coming up empty as a team, first-year Landon Ridpath was nothing short of impressive for the Eagles. The rookie claimed a huge win at the No. 3 singles spot in a narrow 4-5 loss to Edgewood College taking both sets by scores of 7-5. He also teamed up with Derek Williams at the No. 2 doubles position for a much-needed 8-5 win. Ridpath and the Eagles finally return to conference action Saturday after taking several weeks off as they face Bethany Lutheran and Martin Luther Colleges.
WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Madeleine Scanlan, Jr., St. Scholastica

For the third time this season, Madeleine Scanlan earned UMAC Player fo the Week after going unbeaten in singles and doubles play. The junior star for St. Scholastica picked up straight-set wins over Martin Luther and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. She also used a win in a third-set tiebreaker against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at No. 2 singles which was the decisive win in a 5-4 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Saints improved to 6-0 in conference play this weekend and will look to remain undefeated against North Central University and Minnesota Morris this week.
BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

The St. Scholastica baseball team kicked off the conference season with two wins over Minnesota Morris thanks in large part to a solid pitching performance from senior star Jordan Risse. In the game two 10-0 win, Risse recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts in his seven innings pitched for a shutout victory. He also gave up just one hit to the Cougars. This season, Risse boasts a 4-0 record on the mound and ranks second in the UMAC for earned run average (2.87) and strikeouts per game (11.78). Risse and the Saints return to action Tuesday against North Central and face Bethany Lutheran Saturday.

The Northland baseball team scored two wins over Bethany Lutheran in the UMAC Game of the Week Sunday thanks to a standout performance from Alex Elliott. The sophomore finished the two-game series with a .500 average after going 5-of-10 at the plate and a 1.600 slugging percentage. Elliott tallied three RBI in each game and a total of four runs scored. In the opener, he hit a double and a home run before hitting another double and two homers in the second outing. Elliott now leads the UMAC in RBI (21), ranks second in hits (24) and is third for slugging (.644). Northland will face Martin Luther in conference action Saturday.
SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Wisconsin-Superior's first weekend of UMAC conference games in softball was one to remember thanks to pitcher Macy Hanson who led the Yellowjackets to two impressive wins over Martin Luther Sunday. Hanson earned the Yellowjackets' first complete game shutout of the season in the opener in which she struck out a team-best 13 strikeouts. The sophomore hurler reached the 10-strikeout plateau for the third time this season and allowed just two hits in the process. Hanson leads the UMAC with a 1.60 ERA and her 10.60 strikeouts per game also rank first. The Yellowjackets return to action Thursday at Northland and Saturday at Crown College.
SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Northwestern had a big week in softball scoring three wins out of its four games played against Crown and North Central, and no player had a bigger week than Ellen Larkin. The junior went 8-of-14 at the plate last week scoring eight runs and tallying four RBI. She ended the four-game stand with a .714 slugging percentage and .625 on base percentage. Larkin leads the UMAC in on base (.507) and also ranks fourth this season for average (.411) and slugging (.638), while her RBI (12) and hits (23) rank seventh. Northwestern returns to acttion Wednesday against Bethany Lutheran and against Northland Saturday.
MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jeremy Peterson, Sr., St. Scholastica

Throughout his career at St. Scholastica, Jeremy Peterson has dominated throw events for the Saints. This weekend was no exception for the Saints' star as he captured victory in the hammer throw at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Ashton May Invite. Peterson had the best toss in a field of 52 competitors with a mark of 56.91 meters (186-8). His throw currently ranks second in Division III so far in the outdoor season. Peterson helped the Saints finish eighth in a field of 15 of the top teams in the region Saturday. The Saints return to action Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus College for the Lee Krough Invite.

After capturing the UMAC Player of the Week in her first try this season, Minnesota Morris' Kaitlin Kamm finds herself with the same honor again this week following an even more impressive performance Saturday at the Saint John's University Invite. The junior bettered her previous mark in the high jump with a jump of 1.68 meters (5-6) to win the event Saturday. Kamm's mark is now tied for fifth-best in Division III. She also finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.67. Kamm and the Cougars are slated to return to action Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus for the Lee Krough Invite.
