Did You Know: Crown College

Throughout the 2013-14 academic year the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) will be highlighting its member institutions by sharing unique facts about each school. The series will allow the opportunity to become more familiar with UMAC institutions. In this edition we feature Crown College in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota.

- Crown College was founded by J.D. Williams in 1916

- The College has been known by a few names, but most recently St. Paul Bible College

- The original college grew out of a bible study

- Before they were the Storm, Crown was known as the Crusaders

- Crown is one of four colleges of the Christian and Missionary Alliance

- Crown has students from 32 different states and 19 countries

- Crown’s top 5 majors are: Youth Ministry, Business, Communications, Elementary Education, and Nursing

- There is an 18 hole disc golf course on campus

- One of the unique features of the Crown campus is that has its own collegiate cross country course located on campus

- Crown’s main building is in the shape of a cross and originally served as a monastery

- St. Bonifacius, where Crown is located, is named after a St. Boniface, who was an apostle to Germany. German immigrants settled the town and German monks founded the monastery in 1885

- There are catacombs behind Simpson Auditorium, but contrary to legend, the monks stored their wine here, not dead bodies

- Crown’s current freshman class is the largest in school history

- Of the 250 new students on campus this year, 60% are student athletes

- International students make up almost 10% of the student body
