ST. PAUL – Four teams swallowed up the 13 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) First Team All-Conference awards on Wednesday, led by the College of St. Scholastica, who landed six players on the first team. The Saints swept all 14 of their league games to win the UMAC title for the third consecutive year. The University of Minnesota Morris, who faced St. Scholastica in the UMAC Tournament championship game last Saturday, added three first teamers to the list.

Between the all-conference first, second and honorable mention teams, St. Scholastica had seven award winners. Northwestern College also had seven all-conference accolades, followed by Morris’ six.

St. Scholastica sophomore Andrew Jenkins was named the UMAC Offensive Player of the Year. Jenkins led the league with 20 goals and 48 points in conference contests while being responsible for four game-winning goals. Jenkins’ teammates Joe Watt and Erik Trochimchuk, who also made an appearance on the UMAC first team, were second and third in points.

Morris’ Scott DeVries, a first team all-conference selection, was tabbed as the UMAC Defensive Player of the Year. DeVries led a Cougars defense that allowed just nine goals throughout the league’s 14-game schedule, helping Morris finish with an 11-3 UMAC record.

Northwestern College head coach Greg Wheaton was voted the coach of the year for the second consecutive season. Wheaton’s Eagles finished with an 8-4-2 UMAC record, placing third in the final conference standings.

Martin Luther College won the women’s soccer team sportsmanship award, an accolade that is selected by the UMAC coaches to best represent sportsmanship throughout the entire 2012 season. Each team had one representative on the individual sportsmanship award list:

Jacob Behmer, Bethany Lutheran College
Erik Graham, College of St. Scholastica
Justin Falter, Crown College
Colton Berger, Martin Luther College
Andy Manley, North Central University
Kert Wuestenhagen, Northland College
