ST. PAUL -- 13 players from five schools comprised the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Women’s Soccer All-Conference First Team, which was voted on by the league’s coaches before Tuesday’s announcement. The College of St. Scholastica, who won the UMAC regular season championship for the ninth consecutive year in 2012 and punched its ticket into the NCAA Tournament last Saturday, added one more member on the all-conference second team to finish with seven players overall.

For the second straight year, the Saints’ Kelsey Kehtel was voted the league’s offensive player of the year. Kehtel, who won both offensive player of the year and rookie of the year honors in her freshman season of 2011, led the UMAC in points (44) and goals scored (18) while playing in 13 league games -- one less than St. Scholastica played. Shanon Carlson, who came in right behind her teammate with 43 points and a UMAC-leading 15 assists against conference opponents, joined Kehtel on the all-conference first team.

The University of Minnesota Morris’ Katie Kestner and Northwestern College’s Heidi Anderson shared the UMAC Defensive Player of the Year award. Both the Cougars and Eagles were among the league’s best in goals allowed and shutouts. Minnesota Morris Head Coach Daniel Magner was selected as the UMAC Coach of the Year by his peers for the second consecutive season. The Cougars improved from last year’s conference record of 8-3-1 to 11-2-1 this year.

In another repeat, Martin Luther College won the women’s soccer team sportsmanship award, an accolade that is selected by the UMAC coaches to best represent sportsmanship throughout the entire 2012 season. Each team had one representative on the individual sportsmanship award list:

Jessica Wacholz, Bethany Lutheran College
Maggie Dolan, College of St. Scholastica
Kirsten Piper, Crown College
Emily Marggraf, Martin Luther College
Christina Goodman, North Central University
Jessie Swider, Northland College
Susan Delain, Northwestern College
Kali Cordes, University of Minnesota Morris
