Northwestern Athletics Reaches Out at Christmas
Dec. 20, 2011
The Northwestern College athletic department is reaching out to the community in different ways this Christmas season. Northwestern student-athletes have physically gone off site to assist those in need, while the institution is hosting a Salvation Army initiative on campus this week.

College of St. Scholastica:

Chris Hamers scored a career-high 28 points in Saturday's 85-71 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Superior. On his way to 28 points, Hamers made eight 3-pointers.

The Saints made 14, 3-pointers vs. UW-Superior on Saturday, which were the most made in a game since January 7, 2005 when they registered 15, 3-pointers against Minnesota-Morris. The 15, 3-pointers is also the program record, which they accomplished on multiple occasions.

Football led Division III in turnover margin (2.00) and passing efficiency (215.66) for the 2011 season. The Saints also led the entire NCAA in passing efficiency and tied for 2nd in turnover margin.

Northwestern’s women’s basketball team headed into the holiday break as the nation’s best free throw shooting team at 81.5 percent (first in NCAA Division III, fifth in all divisions). After a pair of games last week, the Eagles’ rate from the charity stripe is up to 81.9 percent.

During their time at a holiday tournament in southern California, the NWC women’s basketball team spent time with United Rescue Mission serving meals to the homeless on Skid Row in suburban Los Angeles.
