St. Scholastica lands nine on UMAC Baseball All-Conference First Team
ST. PAUL -- The College of St. Scholastica, who won its 15th consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season championship in 2011 and a host of all-conference awards came with the Saints’ title. Nine different St. Scholastica players earned UMAC First Team All-Conference awards followed by two more honorable mention accolades to lead all eight league schools.
Included in St. Scholastica’s nine honorees were Kyle Moody and Matt Lewis, who were chosen as the UMAC’s Player and Pitcher of the Year. Moody finished the conference season with 31 hits, 24 runs scored, 30 RBI and eight doubles, all of which fell in the top five in each respective statistical category. Lewis boasted a 0.69 ERA to go with five UMAC victories, striking out 26 batters from the mound to earn the league’s top pitcher award. In his second year as the Saints head coach, Corey Kemp was voted as the UMAC Coach of the Year by his colleagues. Kemp’s team went 20-1 in conference play, leading the league in team batting, pitching and fielding statistcs.
Bethany Lutheran College’s Dylan Gass was named the UMAC Rookie of the Year after batting .404 with 19 hits and nine RBI in 18 conference affairs. Gass was one of five Vikings selected to the all-conference first team. Presentation College boasted three first team honorees, while Martin Luther College, Northwestern College and the University of Minnesota, Morris each had one representative on the first team. Each team followed with two honorable mention selections.
