Three UMAC Women's Soccer Players Earn NCSAA/NCAA North Second Team All-Region Honors

Three women's soccer players from UMAC member-institutions were recently named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/NCAA Division III North All-Region team. 2011 represents the first time that the conference has had any selections to the all-region team
Bethany Lutheran Basketball Teams Create New Ways to Give Back

The Bethany Lutheran College men’s and women’s basketball programs created a new event this year called, “Viking Reading.” The teams ventured over to Mt. Olive Lutheran School where members of the Viking basketball teams read to second, third and fourth graders.

Bill Wilson Takes Over as Northland College Athletic Director

Northland College Assistant Director of Athletics and Head Women’s Basketball Coach Bill Wilson has been named by President Michael A. Miller to be the college’s Director of Athletics.
NEWS AND NOTES
Bethany Lutheran College:
After Saturday’s game against Wartburg the BLC women’s basketball team has three players who have recorded a double-double this season, Jessica Englund, Anna Cepek, and most recently freshman Shelby Wiederhoeft who recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds vs. the Knights.
The men’s basketball team defeated Augsburg on the road 79-77 Thursday night. Four players on the Vikings squad scored in double figures.
The men’s basketball team fell to last year’s Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champions Carleton by four (73-69) at home last week. Alex Weldon is leading the team this season averaging 17.0 points per game.
In the six games played so far this season women’s basketball stand-out Jessica Englund has recorded four double-doubles. She averages 15.8 points and 11.7 rebounds per game.
The women’s basketball team redeemed a 20 point loss to Waldorf on December 7th by defeating the Warriors at home on Thursday, December 15th 76-69. The Vikes shot 42.9 percent from behind the three-point arc to aid their victory.
In the men’s basketball game vs. Wartburg on Saturday Gavin Kroehler led the team with 15 points. He shot .667 percent from the field, .667 percent from three-point range and 1.000 percent from the free throw line.
College of St. Scholastica:
When Kelsey Kehtel and Megan Flesvig were announced all-region for women's soccer and Sam Reed and Kyle Farrar were named all-region for men's soccer, it was the first time either program has had an all-region selection when affiliated with the NCAA.
Voelkner was the first St. Scholastica football player to take part in the All-American Bowl on Saturday in Minneapolis.
Women's basketball's Laura Amys recorded seven blocks vs. UW-Superior on Saturday, setting a new program record. The previous record of six was also held by Amys.

For the second time this season, the Northwestern men’s basketball team went an entire game (Dec. 18 vs. Whitworth) without shooting a free throw. The Eagles never made it to the charity stripe on Nov. 30 at Wis.-Superior as well..
Post player Ethan Benton didn’t miss any of his seven shots on Sunday versus Whitworth, going 7-for-7 from the field, which included a perfect 3-for-3 mark from behind the three point line.
Women’s basketball player Jessica Fife averaged a double-double last week, scoring an average of 12 points while pulling down an average of 12.5 rebounds in two games. Fife is the Eagles’ leading rebounder this season.
Freshman women’s basketball player Chanel Madson scored a career-high 22 points at North Central on Dec. 13. Madson, who made seven of her 10 three-point attempts on the week, has set a new career-best for scoring five times this season.

University of Minnesota, Morris:
The Cougar men’s basketball team lost to St. John’s at home. Derek Schmidt had a season high 18 point to lead the Cougars, along with his scoring Schmidt left the court as the top rebounder on the night tying his season high for the fourth time with 7 boards.
In women’s basketball, the Cougars dropped a close game to Dakota State. They were led in scoring by Kendra Wykoff with 14; she is the fifth Cougar to lead the team in scoring in as many games.
