Hanson, Valesano debut 2011-12 UMAC Track & Field Player of the Week Awards
ST. PAUL -- Track and field athletes joined men's and women's basketball players on this week's UMAC Player of the Week award listing. The College of St. Scholastica swept the first set of track and field awards, adding a women's basketball award to their weekly resume. Congratulations to this week's winners.
MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
G Wade Chitwood, Northwestern College
In a 74-72 win over Luther College last Saturday, Wade Chitwood scored a career high 31 points. In Northwestern's only game of the week, Chitwood shot 59 percent while going 5-for-5 from behind the three-point line.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
G Mariah Hovick, College of St. Scholastica
In a 79-71 win over Finlandia University last week, Mariah Hovick scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Hovick had three assists and four steals in the game.
MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Justin Hanson, College of St. Scholastica
In "The Opener" hosted by St. Scholastica, Justin Hanson ran the 300 meter dash in 36.89 seconds, breaking the previous school record by almost two seconds. Justin also broke the 60 meter hurdles record at St. Scholastica, besting his previous record.
WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Maria Valesano, College of St. Scholastica
Maria Valesano destroyed her school record in the 300 meter race at "The Opener" hosted by St. Scholastica, winning the event with a time of 42.60. Maria also broke the 60 meter record with a time of 8.14 seconds.
