North Central leads men's golf all-conference list with four selections

ST. PAUL -- Following Saturday’s final round of the 2011 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Men’s Golf Championship, the league awarded all-conference honors to the top eight scores. North Central University’s Dean Goodwin mastered Alexandria Golf Club in Alexandria, Minn. to earn medalist honors and top the all-conference list. Goodwin shot a 78-79-74-231 to finish 15-over par, just one stroke ahead of Bethany Lutheran College’s Jon Pederson, to lead the Rams to their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Goodwin was joined on the all-conference list by North Central teammates Taylor Alvarado, Daniel Johnson and Taylor Murphy. Representing other institutions on the team was Pederson, the University of Minnesota Morris’ Collin Anderson and Derek Dionne and Northwestern College’s Daniel Horner and Alex Kitson.

North Central head coach Spencer Hutton was selected by his peers as the UMAC Coach of the Year following the Rams’ third straight UMAC Championship. The Rams shot a three-day team score of 948, 46 strokes ahead of Bethany Lutheran, their nearest competitor.

Northwestern College won the team sportsmanship award, an accolade that is selected by the UMAC coaches to best represent sportsmanship throughout the entire 2011 season, which includes the championship event. Each team had one representative on the individual sportsmanship award list. The following participants best exemplified sportsmanship at the championship meet.
