ST. PAUL -- For the fourth consecutive year, the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) proclaimed a record high for individual academic all-conference awards distributed from the fall 2010 semester. In all, 359 student-athletes from 13 institutions received recognition for an award that carries the following required criteria:

1. Post a 3.5 or better semester grade point average based on a 4.0 scale
2. Compete in the sport in which the student-athlete is nominated in the season that corresponds with the selection

The 359 academic all-conference awards from 2010 are four better than last year’s 355, which was a new record in itself at the time after welcoming four new football associate members. 2007 and 2008 were also record years for the volume of UMAC individual academic accomplishments. In the same way they did in 2009, the College of St. Scholastica boasted the highest number of academic all-conference award recipients with 74. Martin Luther College came in second place with 53 accolades, followed by 46 and 44, respectively, from Northwestern College and the University of Minnesota, Morris.

The sport of football ran away with the most academic all-conference awards, boasting 90 recipients. Women’s cross country and women’s soccer followed in second and third with 69 and 61 awards. Men’s cross country took fourth with 39 accolades, while volleyball rounded out the top five with 37.
