The St. Scholastica baseball team was an overwhelming favorite to win the UMAC again in 2016, but they would face a tough test in its home opener against the team dubbed to take the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) title. Thanks to solid pitching from Risse, the Saints opened the year with a thrilling 6-2 win over Bethel University in a rare March outdoor game Saturday. The senior hurler earned the win throwing four innings allowing no earned runs and just three hits while striking out four batters. The Saints face another tough MIAC opponent this Saturday in doubleheader action taking on Saint Mary's University at 1 p.m. in Minnetonka, Minnesota.
