Fall 2017 athletes earn 508 Academic All-UMAC honors
ST. PAUL, Minn.---The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) just missed honoring a record number of student-athletes with academic all-conference awards as 508 individuals earned the accolade, announced Wednesday. Last fall, the UMAC set a record with 513 athletes recognized, making this year's number the second-highest in conference history for the fall semester.

Individuals who earn a 3.5 or better grade point average (GPA) or better during their respective semesters of competition are recognized with the prestigious honor.
Martin Luther College boasted the highest number of student-athletes awarded as the Knights led all institutions with 85 honors which included 21 winners from women's soccer. The College of St. Scholastica was just three behind Martin Luther racking up 82 fall honors, while the University of Northwestern was solid in third with 75 awardees.
For the fall awards by sport, football had the top number of players recognized with 107 winners. Women's soccer was just one award behind with 106 awards, while volleyball picked up 76 in third and men's soccer earned 70.
In the team competition, Martin Luther claimed four of the eight awards which are given to the team with the top team GPA for their respective corresponding semesters. The Knights volleyball team recorded the top team GPA among all programs with an impressive 3.82 mark. Martin Luther claimed the next two highest in women's cross country (3.78) and women's soccer (3.73). The Knights won eight of the team awards for the 2016-17 academic year and have already shown they could reach that number again this year.
North Central University was the only other institution to earn multiple team honors claiming women's golf (3.716) and men's cross country (3.634). Three of the Martin Luther programs earning the team award made UMAC tournament appearances (men's soccer, women's soccer and volleyball).
