UMAC Player of the Week Awards - Sept. 11, 2017
ST. PAUL, Minn.--- The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced its Player of the Week award winners Monday in the sports of football, volleyball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country and men's and women's golf. The UMAC Player of the Week awards are nominated for by UMAC coaches and sports information directors (SIDs) and selected by SIDs. The awards are published each Monday afternoon.
The award winners and descriptions of their accomplishments for the week are below:

FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nathan Randall, Jr., MacMurray
White Hall, Ill./North Greene
- Led MacMurray to a 54-28 UMAC win over Martin Luther
- Went 24-for-34 with 346 yards passing and a touchdown
- Completed a long pass of 41 yards and averaged 14 per completion
FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nick Swore, Jr., Northwestern
Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian
- Led Northwestern to 19-13 overtime win over Eureka
- Made two interceptions including one in overtime
- Tallied 11 tackles including one for a loss and forced one fumble
FOOTBALL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tanner Kuhne, So., Eureka
Princeton, Ill./Princeton
- Made a 26-yard field goal to force overtime against Northwestern
- Went 2-for-2 in field goal attempts and made one point after
- Averaged 43.5 yards on four kick offs for Eureka
VOLLEYBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Morgan Miller, So., Minnesota Morris
Twin Valley, Minn./Ada-Borup
- Helped Minnesota Morris to 4-0 weekend with a win over No. 23 Tufts
- Collected 67 kills in five matches over the week including 19 vs. Bowdoin
- Currently leads the UMAC in hitting percentage (.331) and total blocks (42)
VOLLEYBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jackie Doering, Sr., Northwestern
Charles City, Iowa/Charles City
- Recorded 89 digs (6.85 per set) in four matches
- Collected 29 digs in four-set loss to Wisconsin-Eau Claire
- Earned All-Tournament Team honors at Augsburg
VOLLEYBALL SETTER OF THE WEEK
Layne Herrmann, So., Minnesota Morris
Brownton, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake
- Tallied 220 assists (10.00 per set) in five matches and four Cougar wins
- Recorded 55 assists in the Cougars' 3-2 win over No. 23-ranked Tufts
- Added 56 digs and 24 kills over the five-match span
MEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Luke Buckton, Jr., St. Scholastica
Bath, England/Writhlington School
- Collected three goals in two games to help Saints go 1-1 on the week
- Tallied two goals including the game-winner in the second half of 3-1 win vs. Bethel
- Has recorded at least one goal in three of the Saints' first four games
MEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cody Christ, Sr., Minnesota Morris
Elk River, Minn./Elk River
- Collected two shutouts for the Cougars last week
- Finished with six saves vs. Concordia and a total of nine for the week
- Boasts 1.000 GAA that ranks second in the UMAC this season
WOMEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Molly Hancuh, Sr., Minnesota Morris
Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View
- Tallied 14 points in three games for the Cougars last week
- Recorded three goals and two assists in 9-0 win over Rockford
- Scored two of four goals in 4-3 win over Wisconsin Lutheran
WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Samantha Dewey, Jr., Northwestern
Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors
- Recorded 13 saves and surrendered just one goal in 1-0 loss to Bethel
- Tallied 11 saves in Eagles' loss to Carleton Saturday
- Finished the week with 33 saves in three-game span
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Evan Walpole, Jr., Wisconsin-Superior
Superior, Wis./Superior
- Led Wisconsin-Superior to third-place team finish at Wisconsin-River Falls
- Placed fifth individually in the 8,000-meter race
- Recorded a personal record time of 26:20.2
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Jane Hulterstrum, So., Northwestern
Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield
- Top finisher for Northwestern at Wisconsin-River Falls Invitational
- Completed the 6,000-meter course in 25:46
- Placed 28th overall to help Eagles to sixth-place team finish
MEN'S GOLF PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nick Mahowald, So., Northwestern
Watertown, S.D./Watertown
- Collected medalist honors at the UMAC Men's Golf Preview
- Recored a low round of 70 (-2) to help Eagles to second-place finish
- Currently lead the UMAC with a 73.0 strokes per round average
WOMEN'S GOLF PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Amanda Broman, Sr., St. Scholastica
Mankato, Minn./Mankato East
- Collected medalist honors at UMAC Women's Golf Preview
- Recorded a low round of 87 (+15) to help Saints to first-place win
- Ranks second in the UMAC with a 88.7 strokes per round average
