St. Scholastica cards top score at UMAC Men's Golf Preview

ALEXANDRIA, Minn.---Just over a week into the fall golf season, competition began heating up in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) as all nine conference teams competed in the UMAC Golf Preview event Thursday. After a closely contested competition, the College of St. Scholastica walked away with the team title with a score of 303 (+15) at the Alexandria Golf Club.
The Saints edged out bridge rival University of Wisconsin-Superior by six strokes as the Yellowjackets tallied a team score of 309 (+21), while the University of Northwestern placed third with a score of 313 (+25).
Jason Peterson led the Saints to victory with the top individual score of the day of 71 (-1). The first-year was the lone player of the day to finish under par and was three strokes better than the next three finishers.
Evan Lunda of Northland College along with Tyler Smith and Anton Svensson of Wisconsin-Superior finished tied for second with scores of 74 (+2), while Josh Hansen of Martin Luther College was one stroke behind in fifth with a 75 (+3).
Lunda led Northland to a fourth-place finish as they collected a team score of 322 (+34). Bethany Lutheran College was fifth with score of 330 (+42) as Daniel Gutzmer carded the Vikings' top score at 80 (+8) to finish tied for 13th.
Hansen led Martin Luther to a sixth-place finish with a 333 (+45). Crown College took seventh behind a team score of 335 (+47). Thomas Messner led the Storm with a score of 78 (+6) to finish tied for ninth.
The University of Minnesota Morris carded a score of 341 (+53) with Mike Campbell leading the way with a score of 81 (+9) to place tied for 21st. North Central University was ninth at 374 (+86) with Connor Whitcomb shooting an 84 (+12).
All nine conference squads will return to Alexandria for the UMAC Men's Golf Championship beginning Thursday, Oct. 6 for a three day event concluding Saturday, Oct. 8.
