Wisconsin-Superior men earn first UMAC outdoor track and field title
MORRIS, Minn.---The University of Wisconsin-Superior men's track and field team was close to defeating the College of St. Scholastica at the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) indoor meet, but a talented squad across all events helped the Yellowjackets win their first UMAC Outdoor Championship Saturday.
The win was the first for Wisconsin-Superior in its first season as a conference member. The Yellowjackets are also the first team other than St. Scholastica in the UMAC Outdoor Championships since 2011. Wisconsin-Superior tallied 254 points, while St. Scholastica reached 196.50.

The top individual highlights of the final day of competition came from none other than Yellowjackets distance star Charles Corbett and field star Thomas Udenberg. Corbett set a new meet record in the 5,000-meter run with a time a of 15:29.69, while Udenberg won the shot put with a toss of 15.73 meter (51-7.75).
Junior Alexander Fathie captured a victory for Wisconsin-Superior in the 400-meter dash corssing the line in 50.67 meters to beat out reigning champion Kyle Anenson of University of Northwestern-St. Paul.
The Saints' top performance of the day came in the form of a meet record from throws standout Jeremy Peterson. After setting a meet record in the hammer throw Friday, the senior again broke his own record – this time in the discus with a toss of 46.24 meters (151-8). The Saints also got a title win from decathlete Kevin Wagner in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.12.
The University of Minnesota Morris earned a third-place finish with a score of 117.50 thanks to several big performances. Justin Terry capped off his senior sprints career winning his second event of the meet with a time of 10.60 in the 100-meter dash.
Chalmer Combellick won his second event of the weekend in the 1,500-meter run clocking a time of 4:03.79, while first-year Devan Griffin won the triple jump with a mark of 12.81 meters (42-0.5).
Northwestern claimed event wins in both of Saturday's relays. The Eagles won a closely contests 4 x 100-meter relay with a time of 44.42 that was just 0.44 seconds fasater than the Wisconsin-Superior squad. They also won the 4 x 400-meter relay with a time of 3:28.89.
Martin Luther College had a repeat champion and event winner in Todd Brassow. The senior took the high jump title with a mark of 2.00 meters (6-6.75) to break his own meet record in the event.
The Eagles used their relays to help them finish fourth in the team standings with 83 points, while Bethany Lutheran College and Martin Luther tied for fifth with 44 points. Crown College placed seventh with nine points and North Central University was eighth with four.
