The Yellowjackets locked up the No. 1 seed with a decisive victory over the University of Northwestern-St. Paul in exciting fashion Friday. The victory also helped the Yellowjackets secure their second-straight conference tournament after claiming the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) crown a year ago.

As the top seed in the women’s tournament, the Yellowjackets will host a semifinal game Wednesday evening against the winner of Monday’s quarterfinal game between No. 4 University of Minnesota Morris and No. 5 Martin Luther College at 7:30 p.m. in Superior, Wisconsin.

The No. 4-seed Cougars locked up a right to host Monday’s matchup with a set of wins this weekend over Martin Luther and No. 3-seed Bethany Lutheran College. The Cougars – who finished the season 9-7 in the UMAC and 14-11 overall – will make their 11th-straight UMAC postseason appearance.

The No. 5-seed Martin Luther locked up the final spot in the playoffs Saturday with a thrilling 68-58 overtime win over Crown College. The Knights earned their sixth-consecutive postseason trip with a 7-9 UMAC record and 12-13 overall mark.

The other two post season spots include No. 2 Northwestern and No. 3 Bethany Lutheran College. Both teams locked up a spot following the second-to-last week of the regular season. With a loss to Wisconsin-Superior Friday, the Eagles solidified the No. 2 seed in the postseason after finishing 14-2 in conference play and 20-5 overall.

The Vikings locked up the No. 3 seed heading into the final weekend of UMAC competition and split their contests to finish the year 10-6 in conference play and 14-11 overall. Wednesday’s second semifinal will feature No. 2 Northwestern playing host to No. 3 Bethany Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. in St. Paul.

The winners of Wednesday’s semifinals will face off in the UMAC championship game – with a bid to the NCAA tournament on the line – Saturday at the site of the highest remaining seed. Game time is dependent on competing teams and the men’s basketball title game location.
