St. Scholastica runs away with first-ever UMAC Women's Golf Championship title
ALEXANDRIA, Minn.---The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Women’s Golf Championship saw better weather for the final day of competition which allowed the College of St. Scholastica to increase its lead even more to capture its first-ever conference title for women’s golf.

In just its second year as a program, St. Scholastica couldn’t be touched all season and the same was true in the UMAC tournament. The Saints posted a three-day total of 1101 (+237) which was 72 strokes better than runner up University of Minnesota Morris.
Four players from the Saints’ squad finished in the top seven to lead the Saints to the title. With the win, the Saints will earn the UMAC’s automatic qualifying bid to the national tournament – a program-first for the Saints.
After shooting a round of 92 (+20) on the opening day, the Saints’ captain Amanda Broman got progressively better over the tournament carding a tournament-low 81 (+9) to capture medalist honors. The junior compiled a score of 260 (+44) to edge out teammate Arica Sheff.
Sheff carded the low round Thursday with an 83 (+11) but finished with a score of 269 (+53) in her first UMAC tournament. Kylie Slavin placed fifth with a score of 283 (+67) to help the Saints to victory after three solid days of golf. Alexis Babcock used a round of 90 (+12) on the first day to place in a tie for seventh with a score of 290 (+74).
Minnesota Morris finished with a solid second-place showing tallying a score of 1173 (+309) while the University of Wisconsin-Superior was third with a score of 1182 (+318). The Cougars saw Kelsey Wattenhoffer finish fourth after carding a round of 88 (+16) Saturday to record a score of 279 (+63) over the three-day span. Katelyn Foster matched the Saints’ Babcock with a score of 290 (+74) to tie for seventh overall.
Ally Busick put together a strong three days on the course for the Yellowjackets highlighted by a round of 89 (+17) Saturday. Her total score of 277 (+61) was two strokes better than that of Wattenhoffer.
Shelby Eden of the University of Northwestern carded two rounds of 92 (+20) to help the Eagles place fourth overall. Eden finished with a score of 284 (+68) over the three days to finish sixth individually, while the Eagles collected a three-day total of1241 (+377).
Bethany Lutheran College finished solidly in fifth place and were followed by much-improved squads over the three days in Martin Luther College and Northland College in sixth and seventh, respectively. Crown College and North Central University also had competitors but did not complete team scores.
