ALEXANDRIA, Minn.---Leading the pack by 30 strokes after one round at the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Women’s Golf Championship, the College of St. Scholastica doubled its advantage after Day 2 at Alexandria Golf Club. Weather certainly played a role in Friday’s rounds as individuals faced temperatures in the low- to mid-40s with wind chills hovering around 30-35 degrees. Fortunately, Saturday’s forecast calls for the mercury to rise a bit as winds are expected to die down overnight.

Friday’s team standings remain almost identical to the way things wrapped up on Thursday. Only Minnesota Morris and the University of Wisconsin Superior found themselves in a new position after two rounds, swapping places between second and third.

St. Scholastica’s Arica Sheff continues to lead the individual field of 40 golfers. Sheff, who carded an 11-over-par score of 83 on Thursday, shot a 95 on Friday for a two-day total of 178. Sheff’s teammate, Amanda Broman, turned in an 87 on Friday to come within a stroke of the lead. CSS junior Kylie Slavin has stayed consistent throughout the days; her 92-93-185 is currently good for third place in the individual tally.

All 40 participants will be back in action for the third and final round of the UMAC Championship on Saturday. The team winner will collect not only the league trophy, but also an automatic qualifying ticket into next May’s NCAA Division III Tournament in Houston, Texas. Tee times will begin at 11 a.m. at the par 72, 5,827-yard course.
