Play Suspended at UMAC Baseball Tournament

Due to rainy conditions during the day in the Duluth, Minn. area, Thursday's play has been suspended at the UMAC Tournament. Games 3 and 4 will now be played on Friday with the first game of the day, an elimination game between the University of Northwestern adn Bethany Lutheran Colleg,e scheduled for noon. Northland College will then take on St. Scholastica in the winner's bracket at 3 p.m. The winner between Bethany and Northwestern will play the loser between Northland and St. Scholastica at 6 p.m. in the second elimination game of the tournament.

The championship game will be played on Saturday at noon with an if necessary game to follow at 3 p.m. An updated tournament schedule is below.

ST. PAUL – The College of St. Scholastica and Wade Stadium in Duluth, Minn. will host the 2015 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Baseball Tournament this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The winner of the four-team double elimination tournament will earn the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament.

The opening game of the tournament is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday between No. 2 Northland College and third-seeded University of Northwestern. The LumberJacks enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed for the second consecutive season after compiling a regular season league record of 13-8 and will face the Eagles (13-8 UMAC) once again in the opening round. In the first weekend of conference play the LumberJacks swept the three-game series against the Eagles.

Host St. Scholastica enters the tournament as the top seed after compiling a 20-1 conference record this season and claiming their 18th consecutive regular season UMAC title. The Saints will face fourth-seeded Bethany Lutheran College (11-10 UMAC) in Thursday’s second game of the day at 1 p.m. in a repeat meeting from the 2014 Tournament. St. Scholastica swept the three game regular season series against the Vikings just last weekend.

The losers of the first two games will play at 4 p.m. and the winners of the first two will play at 7 p.m. Thursday. The second elimination game will begin action on Friday at 1 p.m. with the championship game to follow at 4 p.m. If a second championship game needs to be played it will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Upon completion of the tournament championship game, one team will advance to the NCAA Tournament, which begins at eight regional sites May 13 -16 before Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wis. hosts the finals May 22 – 26.
