ST. PAUL -- The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Game of the Week is a feature that takes place each week throughout the conference portion of the season with one contest being selected and highlighted as the UMAC Game of the Week.
This week's UMAC Game of the Week will take place on Friday, December 4 as the UMAC portion of the basketball season kicks off with the University of Wisconsin-Superior traveling to Bethany Lutheran College for the first ever women's basketball conference matchup between the two teams.
About the Vikings
The Bethany women’s basketball team comes into the game vs. Wis.-Superior with a record of 2-3, 0-0 to open the 2015-16 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference season.
Freshman Haley Sandin is currently leading the Vikings on the offensive end of the court averaging nearly 27 points per game. The shooting guard has been named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week twice already this season.
The Vikings point guard, Minnie Frederick-Childress has stepped into the Vikings lineup and been an early contributor by scoring nearly 15 points a game to go along with three assists and five steals.

nd Team All-Conference a year ago, Briana Brandts has been a solid leader for the women’s basketball team in the early part of this season. The forward is averaging 13 points and 11 rebounds per contest.
About the Yellowjackets
The 2015-16 season will be a season of transition for the Yellowjacket women’s basketball team, as they start play this weekend for the first time as a full member of the UMAC following a stint in the WIAC that saw the Yellowjackets play in back-to-back WIAC championship games and just miss out on a berth in the NCAA tournament.
The (3-2) UW-Superior team is currently led by Hailey Kontny, a sophomore transfer from UMD, who is averaging 14 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Also making their mark this season are seniors Hadley Skalmoski, 11.3 points and 5.8 rebounds, and Allie Nelson who averages 10.3 points and 4.3 assists per game.
The Yellowjackets are coached by Don Mulhern, who is in his 28th season as a college basketball coach and 10th season at UW-Superior. Mulhern was named the WIAC Coach of the Year in two of the past three seasons and has a record of 100-133 at UW-Superior.

- The Vikings are averaging 73.6 points per game, and forcing 25 turnovers per game against their opponents in their first five games of the season.

This season the Yellowjackets are fielding one of the tallest teams in school history, with 12 of the 20 players on the roster listed at 5-10 or taller and four who are at least 6-0.
- UW-Superior was the WIAC regular season champion for the only time in school history in 2014-15.
- The last matchup between Bethany Lutheran and UW-Superior was on December 14, 2013. The Yellowjackets defeated the Vikings 82-60.
