ST. PAUL -- The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Game of the Week is a feature that takes place each week throughout the conference portion of the season with one contest being selected and highlighted as the UMAC Game of the Week.
This week's Game of the Week will take place on Saturday, December 12th at 5 p.m. in St. Paul as the University of Minnesota Morris travels to the University of Northwestern in women's basketball action. Saturday's game between the Eagles and Cougars will be a rematch of the 2015 UMAC Women's Basketball Tournament Championship and will feature the two teams picked to finish first and second in the league in the UMAC Coaches' Preseason Poll.
About the Cougars
The University of Minnesota Morris women's basketball team (3-2, 1-0) enters the weekend looking to stay undefeated in conference play, after defeating Crown College this past weekend at home. The Cougars have a tough road trip ahead taking on the North Central Rams and UMAC rival Northwestern for the first time this season.
This season the Cougars have five players averaging at least eight points per game, with three of them being freshmen. They are led by freshman Elli Stevenson who is averaging 13.8 points, and junior Tori Holt with 11.4 points and 7 rebounds a game this season.
Since 2010 the Cougars are 12-3 against Northwestern. Last season the Cougars split the regular season series and shared the UMAC Regular Season Title. Morris beat Northwestern 64-54 in overtime to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
About the Eagles
The University of Northwestern women’s basketball team (5-2, 1-0) enters the weekend winners of its last four games, having most recently defeated Northland College and Finlandia University last weekend on the road. The Eagles, who were picked as the preseason favorite in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, will play their final three games of 2015 at home.
Amy Berglund’s 13.3 points per game leads UNW, as the sophomore is shooting 50 percent from the field (37-of-74) and 91 percent (19-of-21) from the charity stripe. She was the UMAC Player of the Week for the week of December 1. Junior Tiffany Stubbs is also averaging in double figures, as the shooting guard has hit a conference-best 21 triples this season. In her most recent game, Stubbs connected on a season-high five 3-pointers en route to scoring 15 points in Northwestern’s 67-50 win at Finlandia. Courtney Cunard is averaging eight boards a game, which ranks third in the league.

- Minnesota Morris has won 12 of the last 15 meetings between the two programs. UMM leads the all-time series 23-18.
- This will be the earliest meeting between the two teams since 2002, when the Eagles defeated the Cougars 88-61 on December 14th.
- The Eagles and Cougars have met in the conference tournament championship each of the last two seasons.
