ST. PAUL – The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference announced its all-conference award recipients following Saturday’s final round of the 2015 UMAC Men’s Golf Championship at Alexandria Golf Club in Alexandria, Minn.  The top eight individual scores, including ties, from the three-day event plus two additional individuals as voted on by coaches were awarded the honor. 

Crown College’s Tom Messner earned medalist honors at the championship shooting a three-day score of 221 to lead the all-conference list.  The honor was Messner’s third as he also received all-conference recognition in 2013 and 2014.  Josh Hansen from Martin Luther College finished one stroke behind Messner in the individual standings to earn his third all-conference honor.  Messner’s teammate and 2014 men’s golf individual medalist, Reed Sorenson, was also named to the all-conference list for the fourth straight season.  

Evan Lunda from Northland College was voted by the UMAC Coaches as the 2015 Men’s Golf Player of the Year.  Lunda finished in fourth place individually at the championship, to finish the fall season averaging a 74.8 per 18-holes. 

The University of Northwestern had four players named to the 2015 All-UMAC list, the most of any team, as Caleb Johnson, Michael Vowels, Mac Saby and Jeff Rynning all earned a spot on the 11 person list.  Northwestern Head Coach Billy Aune was selected by his peers as the UMAC Coach of the Year following his team’s second place finish at the event. 

The Eagles also won the team sportsmanship award for the fourth consecutive season, an accolade that is selected by the UMAC coaches and awarded to the team that best represents sportsmanship throughout the entire season, including the championship event.

Representing other institution’s on the all-conference list were Bethany Lutheran College’s BJ Pennells, Anton Svensson from the University of Wisconsin-Superior and Marc Peterson from the College of St. Scholastica. 

Each team also had one representative named to the individual sportsmanship award list. The following individuals were selected:
