INDIANAPOLIS – The College of St. Scholastica's Becky Huberty , Nicole Christianson and Chelsea Johnson have qualified for this weekend's NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships to be held in Lincoln, Neb.; it was officially announced on Monday.
Huberty will be making her second consecutive NCAA Indoor Championships appearance and her fourth straight championship appearance overall (indoor/outdoor). This will mark the first time she will compete in two events at the indoor championship, as she will take part in the shot put and weight throw. She competed in both the hammer throw and weight throw at the 2013 outdoor championships, earning the program's first All-American honor by placing fourth in the hammer at those championships. At last year's indoor championships, Huberty placed 14th in the weight throw.
Christianson will be making her first NCAA Championships appearance. The sophomore high jumper was narrowly beat out on the last day of qualification during the 2013 outdoor season. This year, Christianson narrowly gets into the field as she was right around the cut line of 17.
Johnson will be making her first NCAA Track & Field Championships appearance. The reigning NCAA Women's Cross Country National Champion will take part in the 5,000m run. Johnson's qualifying time took place way back in December at the team's opening meet and held up as the second-fastest time in the nation.
Action begins Friday morning for the Saints with Huberty competing in the weight throw. Johnson will be competing that evening in the 5000m run. Huberty then competes again in the shot put Saturday morning, with Christianson competing in the high jump Saturday afternoon.
