UNW has Strong Showing in UMAC Weekly Awards
MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
F Kyle Ooms, University of Northwestern
Kyle Ooms averaged a double-double in last week's pair of UMAC games with 11.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest. Kyle missed just one shot all weekend while also going 8-9 at the free throw line. Ooms added four blocks and three assists in two games to help Northwestern stay in first place in the UMAC.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
G Mollie Sir, University of Northwestern
Sir had an exceptional week to help Northwestern earn its 16th and 17th victories of the season, averaging 19.0 points per game with an additional average of four rebounds and four assists per contest. Eight of the senior's 11 made baskets in the Eagles' two games were from outside the three-point arc.
MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Chalmer Combellick, University of Minnesota Morris
Combellick set another school record, this time by five seconds, in the one mile run winning a race that was full of Division I and II runners at the North Dakota State University Bison Open. He finished with a time of 4:15.45 which also broke the facility record. Combellick currently ranks in the top-25 in the nation in the mile.
WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jordin Skarin, University of Northwestern
Skarin had a good day at the UW-Superior Yellowjacket Open on Saturday. Her 60 meter dash preliminary time of 8.27 seconds was tops among the field, but then the UNW freshman took second in the finals despite shaving three one-hundredths off of her previous time to set a new personal best of 8.24. Skarin also placed third overall in the 200 meter dash, setting another best time of 27.52 seconds.
