UMAC Announces Men's Cross Country Award Winners

ST. PAUL – Following the conclusion of Saturday's Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Men's Cross Country Championship the top 12 individual runners were awarded with all-conference honors.

The College of St. Scholastica and Martin Luther College led the list of honorees with each having four runners earn the all-conference recognition. The Saints were named the 2014 UMAC Men’s Cross Country Champions on Saturday, finishing with a team score of 34 while Martin Luther finished with 43 points in second place.

Joining the Saints and Knights on the all-conference list were two runners from the University of Northwestern, and one each from Northland College and Bethany Lutheran College. The Vikings representative, Owen Richardson, won the men’s individual title turning in an eight-kilometer time of 26:57.0.

St. Scholastica head coach Steve Pfingsten was selected by his peers as the 2014 UMAC Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year following the Saints sixth consecutive men’s title.

Martin Luther College once again won the team sportsmanship award, an accolade that is selected by the UMAC coaches and awarded to the team who best represents sportsmanship throughout the entire season, including the championship event. The following individuals were named to the individual sportsmanship list for displaying positive sportsmanship throughout the 2014 season:
