Men's Soccer Tournament Kicks Off Tuesday

The 2014 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Men’s Soccer Tournament will get underway on Tuesday, November 4 with two opening round contests scheduled for 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

In Tuesday’s first semifinal contest the tournament’s top seed and 2014 UMAC regular season champion, the College of St. Scholastica, will host fourth-seeded Crown College in Duluth at 2 p.m. The Saints posted a perfect conference record of 14-0 this season while the Storm enter the tournament with a UMAC record of 7-6-1. The contest will feature the league’s top offensive weapons as the St. Scholastica trio of Andrew Jenkins, Kyle Farrar and Tom Corcoran and Crown’s Truman Shetler all rank in the top four in goals scored this season. Tuesday’s semifinal match will mark the third time the two teams will meet this season. The Saints shutout the Storm in each of the previous meetings this season by scores of 4-0 and 7-0.

At the same in Morris, Minnesota the second-seeded Cougars will host the University of Northwestern, who enters the UMAC postseason in the No. 3 spot. Minnesota Morris compiled a regular season conference record of 10-2-2 while the Eagles finished with a UMAC record of 7-5-2. Morris’ goalkeeper Cody Christ currently leads the league in save percentage while Northwestern goalie Tuner Main ranks third in goals-against average. In the preview regular season match-ups between the two squads this year, the Cougars were victorious by scores of 6-0 and 1-0.

The semifinal winners will advance to Saturday’s UMAC Tournament Championship game which will be played at the site of the highest remaining seed at either 11:30 a.m. or 2 p.m. The league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament will be awarded to the 2014 UMAC Men’s Soccer Tournament Champion.
