UMAC Game of the Week Archives
ST. PAUL -- The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Game of the Week is a feature that takes place each week throughout the conference portion of the season with one contest being selected and highlighted as the UMAC Game of the Week.
This week's UMAC Game of the Week will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 24 as Crown College travels to the University of Minnesota Morris in men’s soccer action. The Cougars (7-1-2) are currently sitting in second place in the UMAC while the Storm (6-3-1) currently sit just four points back in third place. With both teams fighting for a second place finish this possible playoff preview should be one of the most competitive and exciting regular season games this year.
About the Storm
The Crown men’s soccer team will travel to Morris on Friday with their sights set on hosting a playoff game in a few weeks. The Storm will have plenty of work to do, but with the Cougars still have to face St. Scholastica yet this season. A win on Friday would nearly put Crown in a position to control their own destiny with three games to play.
The first meeting between the two teams this season saw a 1-1 draw at Crown’s KleinBank Stadium. After taking an early 1-0 advantage, Crown had a player sent off and the Storm couldn’t quite hang on to their slim lead. After over an hour playing with 10 men, Crown conceded a goal, but hung on during the overtime periods to preserve the point.
The Cougars have strung together seven shutouts around a 3-0 loss to St. Scholastica since that match, and are as hot as any team in the conference right now. On the opposite side of that coin, the Storm have racked up 19 goals in their last eight games, finding their offensive stride as the season has gone on.
About the Cougars
Minnesota Morris hosts Crown this weekend with a chance secure a spot in the UMAC tournament and clinch the number two seed, securing a home first round tournament game. Earlier this season the two teams played to a 1-1 draw thanks to late goal from William Wachutka.
Morris continues to find scoring from different players, 14 different players have a goal this year and 15 players have at least one point. Zach Jacobson has scored three goals in his last five matches. Victor Aanerud has two goals in his last three matches, including the match winner over Concordia on Wednesday. As a team the Cougars are currently second in the conference scoring categories of both goals and assists.
