Men's and Women's Tennis teams set to compete in UMAC Tournament

ST. PAUL – The College of St. Scholastica heads into this weekend’s Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Postseason Tennis Tournament as the favorite in the men’s and women’s brackets as both went undefeated in UMAC play this season to claim their 17th consecutive UMAC regular season titles. St. Scholastica will be joined by teams from five other UMAC schools on Friday and Saturday as the Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis will host the tournament.

6 p.m. - Semifinal: No. 1 St. Scholastica vs. No. 4 North Central
8:30 p.m. - Semifinal: No. 2 Northwestern vs. No. 3 Martin Luther
Saturday, May 4
11 a.m. - Championship: highest remaining seeds
For the men, the top-seeded Saints (10-0 UMAC) will be joined the No. 2 seed Northwestern College (8-2 UMAC), third-seeded Martin Luther College (6-4 UMAC) and the No. 4 seed North Central University (3-7 UMAC).
The four-team single elimination tournament will kick off on Friday at 6 p.m. when North Central meets the reigning UMAC tournament champions, St. Scholastica. The tournament appearance is a first for the Rams. Immediately following the second semi-final match of the evening between Northwestern and Martin Luther will get underway. The Eagles’ only two conference losses came at the hands of St. Scholastica, while the Knights have only lost to the Saints and the Eagles.

Joining the Saints (10-0 UMAC) in the women’s tournament will be the No. 2 seed Northwestern College (8-2 UMAC), third-seeded University of Minnesota Morris (5-5 UMAC) and the No. 4 seed Bethany Lutheran College (5-5 UMAC).
The first women’s match of the tournament will take place at 6 p.m. Friday evening as Bethany Lutheran attempts to knock off St. Scholastica, winner of the last 16 tournament titles. Minnesota Morris and Northwestern will meet for the third time this season in the second semi-final of the night, which is slated to begin at 8:30 p.m.
The winners of Friday’s semi-final contests will meet on Saturday with both championship matches scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the 2013 UMAC Tennis Champions set to crowned Saturday afternoon.
