ST. PAUL – The College of St. Scholastica, winner of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season and postseason tournament titles, led all teams in UMAC Baseball postseason award honors with six First-Team All-Conference selections.  The Saints earned two more honorable mention awards while boasting the UMAC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year.

The Saints’ Kyle Flagstad was named 2013 UMAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season after batting .489 in UMAC games and leading the league in runs scored (28), stolen bases (11) and slugging percentage (.872) while finishing in the top five in the conference in hits, doubles, triples, home runs and runs batted in.  Flagstad’s teammate Austin Colvard earned UMAC Rookie of the Year honors.  Colvard made an impact for the Saints batting leadoff and finishing third in the league in both hits (24) and runs (22) in his freshman season while batting .414 and striking out only once in 54 at bats in UMAC games.

Following St. Scholastica’s six first team all-conference representatives was Bethany Lutheran College with five first team selections.  Northwestern College had four members on the first team while Northland College had three and Martin Luther College earned two spots on the list.  North Central University had one representative to round out first team.

Corey Ferm of Bethany Lutheran College was named UMAC Pitcher of the Year after finishing the season with a 0.00 ERA in 30 innings.  Ferm made a name for himself leading the league in strikeouts, striking out 41 batters in UMAC play while also pitching a no-hitter this season.

Martin Luther College Head Coach Randall Cox was voted as the coach of the year following his team’s 8-6 conference record that earned the Knights a spot in the UMAC postseason tournament for the first time since 2008.  The Knights also won the team sportsmanship award, an accolade that is selected by the UMAC coaches and presented to team that best represents sportsmanship throughout the entire season. Each team had one representative on the individual sportsmanship award list. The following participants best exemplified sportsmanship throughout the year:
