Game 1 - 10 a.m.: #2 Minnesota Morris vs. #3 Martin Luther

ST. PAUL – The University of Minnesota Morris will host the 2013 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Softball Tournament this Friday and Saturday. The tournament champion will earn the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
The College of St. Scholastica has clinched the tournament’s top seed and the UMAC regular season title for the fifth consecutive year by boasting a 15-4 UMAC record (the Saints have two make-up games scheduled with Northland College on Wednesday). The Saints, who have won the conference tournament the last four years, lead the league in batting average, runs, slugging and on base percentage this season.
Joining St. Scholastica in the four-team double elimination tournament field will be second-seeded University of Minnesota Morris, No. 3 seed Martin Luther College and No. 4 seed Bethany Lutheran College. Minnesota Morris (14-7 UMAC), who finished second in last year’s tournament, will face Martin Luther College (13-8 UMAC) at 10 a.m. Friday to kick off the tournament. The two teams met three times this season with the Knights besting the Cougars in two of the three outings.
Friday’s second game will features two strong pitching teams as St. Scholastica and Bethany Lutheran (13-8 UMAC) are set for a noon first pitch. The Vikings handed the Saints a loss earlier this season, but the Saints own the series winning two of the three previous meetings this season.
By the end of the tournament’s first day, one of the four teams will have been eliminated. After Saturday’s championship game, one team will advance to the NCAA Tournament, which begins on May 9 at eight eight-team regional sites before Eau Claire, Wis. hosts the finals May 17 – 21.
