Saints win 13th consecutive UMAC Women's Cross Country Title

NEW BRIGHTON, Minn. – St. Scholastica senior Chelsea Johnson won her fourth straight race, but first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) individual title as the St. Scholastica women's cross country team had seven runners place in the top nine to claim the team championship for the 13th straight year.

This year's UMAC Championships took place at Brightwood Hills Golf Course in New Brighton. The Saints would win with 20 points, which is tied for the second-lowest total at the conference championship meet in program history.

Chelsea Johnson dominated the field to win her fourth consecutive race and sixth of the season. Johnson won by two minutes and 17 seconds with a time of 21:33.7. Johnson becomes the first runner in St. Scholastica program history win four straight races in a season. She ties Desiree Budd's record of six meets won in a year. Sophomore teammate Andrea Mogren was runner-up. She finished in a time of 23:51.5.

Bethany Lutheran freshman Lauren Farquhar finished in third with a time of 23:52.6. St. Scholastica sophomore Liz Braml came in fourth overall at 23:56.3 while Minnesota Morris' Amanda Peters finished with a time of 24:03.3 good for fifth. Saints freshman Jordan Johnson placed sixth with a time of 24:13.5. Nikki Roach was the final Saint to score in seventh with a time of 24:14.3.

The University of Minnesota Morris was second with 64 points. Bethany Lutheran College was third with 92 points. Martin Luther College was fourth at 114 points and North Central University was fifth with 139 points.

The top 12 individual finishers were awarded all-conference honors following Saturday's race. A full listing of UMAC Women's Cross Country awards will be announced on www.umacathletics.com Monday.
