Saints top UMAC Football Postseason Award list

ST. PAUL – The 2013 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Football Champion, the College of St. Scholastica led all teams in the league’s award list landing 11 individuals on the All-Conference First Team, it was announced Tuesday.

Greenville College quarterback Brendan Chambers was named UMAC Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league’s top scoring offense this season and throwing the least amount of interceptions for a starting quarterback in the UMAC. Chambers’ teammate Josh Frewin earned special teams player of the year honors after a successful season both kicking and punting, making 48 of 49 PAT attempts.

Panthers Head Coach Robbie Schomaker was selected as UMAC Coach of the Year by his colleagues after his squad finished the season 8-1 and in second place in the conference in just his first season at the helm of the program.

Saints defensive back Alec French was named defensive player of the year while teammate Chris Lambach earned offensive lineman of the year honors. French averaged 10.2 tackles per game while leading the league in fumble recoveries and blocked kicks. Lambach, an offensive tackle, was a key blocker for the Saints offense that gave up only 9 sacks and scored 25 rushing touchdowns on the season.

For the second consecutive season the University of Northwestern won the UMAC Football Team Sportsmanship Award, an accolade that is selected by the UMAC coaches to honor the team who best exemplified sportsmanship throughout the entire season.
