St. Scholastica takes 18 of 25 all-conference awards in women's track and field

ST. PAUL -- Of the 25 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Women’s Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference awards that were handed out on Wednesday, a whopping 18 of them went to the College of St. Scholastica, who turned in a dominating victory at Saturday’s 2012 championship in Morris, Minn. The Saints scored 337 points in the meet, more than double the point total of their next-closest competitor.

St. Scholastica won 15 events on Saturday, two of which -- the shot put and hammer throw -- were claimed by the Saints’ Becky Huberty, who earned UMAC Field Athlete of the Meet honors. The remaining six events were won by the University of Minnesota Morris, who boasted the UMAC Track Athlete of the Meet winner in Linda Keller, who crossed the finish line first in both the 800 and 1500 meter runs. The Cougars grabbed six of the remaining seven all-conference awards.

St. Scholastica head coach Kirk Nauman was chosen as the UMAC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year following the Saints’ lopsided victory. Following St. Scholastica’s 337 points was 160 for Minnesota Morris. Northwestern College, who had one all-conference recipient, took third place with 61 points, while Martin Luther finished fourth with 31 points. North Central University competed in the championship meet but did not score.

To earn UMAC All-Conference status, track and field participants must accumulate 16 points throughout the meet’s many events. A full listing of the UMAC Outdoor Track & Field awards is below.
