Minnesota Morris leads men's track and field teams in all-conference balloting

ST. PAUL -- The University of Minnesota Morris led all teams with 12 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Men’s Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference awards as the league distributed 26 accolades following Saturday’s UMAC Championship. The College of St. Scholastica, who won Saturday’s team competition, was close behind with eight all-conference selections.

Minnesota Morris won eight events in the conference outdoor championship meet, with sprinter Leandro Dower and jumper Ryan DeRoeck each winning multiple events. For their efforts, Dower was named the track athlete of the meet while DeRoeck took home field athlete of the meet honors.

St. Scholastica head coach Kirk Nauman was chosen as the UMAC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year following the Saints’ victory. St. Scholastica posted 247 points in the meet, 53 points ahead of the second place-Cougars, who had won two straight conference championships in 2010 and 2011.  The Saints claimed medals in 12 events with three individuals winning multiple events.

Northwestern College, who had five all-conference award-winners, finished third at the championship with 109 points, followed by Martin Luther College’s 32 points and North Central University’s two.

To earn UMAC All-Conference status, track and field participants must accumulate 16 points throughout the meet’s many events. A full listing of the UMAC Outdoor Track & Field awards and event champions is below.
