INDIANAPOLIS – The St. Scholastica softball team will be participating in the Pella (Iowa) Regional, hosted by Central College, and for the second straight year they will be opening up against top-seeded Luther College (Iowa) on Friday.
Other teams in the six-team regional include the host and second-seeded Central College (35-8). The Dutch will go up against the No. 5 seed University of Wisconsin-River Falls (30-13). The other opening round matchup features the No. 3 seed University of St. Thomas (37-7) and No. 4 seed Coe College (Iowa) (34-11).
With it being just a six-team regional, action will begin on Friday, while six other regionals with eight teams begin on Thursday.
The Saints (32-10) are making their second consecutive NCAA Regional Tournament appearance and third overall (2006). Last year at the Eau Claire Regional, the Saints fell to the Norse, the eventual regional champion, in the first game 3-0. CSS stayed alive the next day with a 3-1 win over North Central College (Ill.). CSS was eliminated on the third day by Ripon College (Wis.) by a score of 3-2.
The Saints are coming off their fourth straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season and tournament championship. At one point during the season the Saints had a program-record 19-game winning streak.
