Bethany Lutheran, North Central lead men's golf all-conference award list
ST. PAUL – Upon completion of Saturday’s final round of the 2012 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Men’s Golf Championship at Deacon’s Lodge Golf Course in Breezy Point, Minnesota, the league announced its all-conference recipients. The top eight scores from the three-day event were awarded the honor.
Bethany Lutheran College freshman standout Josh Willis shot the best three-day score and sits at the top of the all-conference list in addition to earning individual medalist honors. Willis shot an 81-78-78 to finish 22 over par and two strokes ahead of North Central’s Taylor Murphy.
Willis was joined on the all-conference team by Bethany Lutheran teammates Jon Pedersen and Austin Snow. North Central also landed three individuals on the eight member all-conference team with Brady Ohman and Colin Blonski joining Murphy on the list. Representing other institutions were University of Minnesota Morris’ Collin Anderson and Crown College’s Reed Sorensen.
North Central University Head Coach Spencer Hutton was selected by his peers as the UMAC Coach-of-the-Year for the second consecutive year following the Rams’ fourth straight UMAC Men’s Golf Championship. The Rams shot a three-day team score of 993, finishing six strokes ahead of Bethany Lutheran College and earning the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships in Destin, Florida in May of 2013.
Northwestern College won the team sportsmanship award for the second consecutive year, an accolade that is selected by coaches and awarded to the team that best exemplifies sportsmanship throughout the season, which includes the championship event. Each team also had one representative named to the individual sportsmanship award list, the following individuals were selected:
