St. Scholastica lands six on UMAC Women's Soccer All-Conference First Team

ST. PAUL -- 13 players from the College of St. Scholastica, Northwestern College and University of Minnesota Morris comprised the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Women’s Soccer All-Conference First Team, the league announced on Tuesday. St. Scholastica, who won the UMAC title for the eighth consecutive year in 2011, added one more member on the all-conference second team to finish with seven players overall amongst the three teams.

The Saints’ Kelsey Kehtel was chosen as both the UMAC Offensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year after the freshman led the league in points, points per game, and goals. Kehtel also ranked amongst the top 10 in assists. St. Scholastica’s Megan Flesvig and Northwestern’s Bridget Couwenhoven shared the UMAC Defensive Player of the Year award. Both the Saints and Eagles were among the league’s best when it came to goals allowed and shutouts.

Head Coaches Josh Pettit (Northwestern) and Daniel Magner (Minnesota Morris) were selected by their peers as the UMAC Co-Coaches of the Year. Both the Eagles and Cougars finished with 8-3-1 conference records.

Martin Luther College won the women’s soccer team sportsmanship award, an accolade that is selected by the UMAC coaches to best represent sportsmanship throughout the entire 2011 season. Each team had one representative on the individual sportsmanship award list:
