Three UMAC volleyball teams earn AVCA Team Academic Award
ST. PAUL -- Almost half of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) volleyball teams were amongst the list of 75 NCAA Division III colleges and universities to be awarded the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award. The College of St. Scholastica, Martin Luther College and Northwestern College were three of 450 institutions from all affiliations nationwide to qualify for the accolade.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
49 volleyball student-athletes from the eight full-member UMAC schools were awarded academic all-conference awards following the Fall 2009 season. As a team, St. Scholastica bested the other seven institutions with a team GPA of 3.520.
