ST. PAUL -- A pair of UMAC student-athletes were named to the D3baseball.com All-America Second Team late Tuesday evening. Bethany Lutheran College’s Cody Hallahan and the College of St. Scholatica’s Jeff Adams were two of the four pitchers on the all-American second team.
Hallahan finished the season nationally ranked in multiple pitching categories. Most notably, Hallahan ranked fifth in strikeouts, sitting down 102 batters in 80 and one-third innings pitched. His 1.79 ERA was seventh best in the nation. Hallahan held his opponents to a .198 batting average, allowing only 16 earned runs all season. The right hander averaged 11.43 strikeouts per nine innings ranking 13th, and averaged 6.5 hits allowed per nine innings ranking 15th. He allowed 58 hits and 20 walks in 14 appearances. Hallahan, who was named the UMAC Pitcher of the Year earlier this week, ended the season 9-2 with the 16th most victories of any pitcher in the nation.
Adams, who was a first team all-conference selection for the first time in his career, went 8-1 this season, including winning his first eight decisions. He struck out 42 batters, while allowing just 40 hits in 51.2 innings pitched. Adams was best in the league with a 0.98 earned run average and .160 opponent’s batting average during the regular season. He is ranked 35th in the nation with a 2.44 earned run average and is 27th with 6.96 hits allowed per nine innings. 2010 marks the second straight year a Saints pitcher has earned some sort of D3baseball.com postseason accolade as Adian Kummet was an honorable mention choice last season.
St. Scholastica and Bethany Lutheran finished one-two in both the final 2010 UMAC standings and the conference postseason tournament. St. Scholastica advanced to its seventh NCAA Tournament in Whitewater, Wis.
