INDIANAPOLIS – For the sixth straight year and the seventh time overall, the St. Scholastica baseball team has earned a bid to the 2010 NCAA Tournament and will take part in the Midwest Regional, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, starting on Wednesday on Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium.

CSS will be the No. 3-seed in the regional and will face the No. 4-seed University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, who finished runner-up in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in both the regular season and conference tournament, in the opening round.

The other four teams in the regional include the top seed and host, WIAC Regular Season and Tournament Champion, UW-Whitewater. The No. 2 seed will be the defending national champion and Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Regular Season and Tournament Champion University of St. Thomas. Carthage College (Wis.) from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) is the No. 5 seed and Northern Athletics Conference’s (NAC) Tournament Champion Aurora University (Ill.) rounds out the regional as the No. 6 seed.

The Saints are coming off their 14th straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Regular Season and Tournament Championship, even though they were not picked to win the conference at the beginning of the season. CSS has won 38 games this season, which is the third-most in program history. Earlier this season, the Saints broke a program-record with 24 consecutive wins.

Last year, the Saints won their opening round game against St. Norbert College 7-6 in 11 innings. However, they then fell to eventual national champion St. Thomas and were eliminated by the Pointers.

This year’s opening round contest against UW-Stevens Point will be the seventh time the two programs will meet in a NCAA Regional and fourth time they will match-up in the opening round. Both teams have split the first six meetings.

All of the action will take place at Prucha Field on the campus of UW-Whitewater. Tickets can be purchased at the venue on each day of the tournament. A ticket for the entire day is $6/adult and $3/students, youth and senior citizens.
